Professional Help:
Engaging with external professionals is a critical part of the collective housing process. This step affords certain opportunities to a collective housing community:
-
Engaging with professionals outside the collective housing community may be a good chance to get external perspectives on a project. When a community is invested both personally and financially in a project, they can easily overlook things. An outside professional will come into a project without that attachment, and may be able to provide valuable feedback.
-
All communities have a diverse set of skills and abilities contributed by members. While community members will likely do a lot of the work involved in establishing collective housing, there will likely be moments where outside help is needed. If a community lacks a required skill or ability, or is overwhelmed by the scale of a challenge, engaging with members of the wider community and collective housing communities may help resolve these issues. There are also a range of experienced community weavers and facilitators that can help with community support.
-
External consultants will be likely to be required for any collective housing project. Commonly required consultants are those that provide help with legal, financial, planning, design, and construction challenges.
